Needing help and direction. Simple drummer talking to bci and ai experts.
There are some threads on the OpenBCI Forum that you may want to explore.

It is a big field, and a more general search would be:

You may want to start with a consumer headset model such as Muse. There are probably even apps off the shelf.

OpenBCI has some equipment, but requires more tech knowledge to assemble the pieces. Pre-built headsets are easier.

Would off the shelf bci headset synchronize with an electronic drum set. My vision is to create an electronic ai drum set that utilizes bci. I believe its possible especially for drummers. If i can get a concept prototype then i hope to begin funding for a ground up approach having the entire set built with ai and bci in mind.
You’ll have to do your own internet searches, based on what I’ve already given above. Doubtful that you will find BCI drum kit systems, ready-to-use. Have you done any EEG work yourself? The brain signals are irregular enough that precisely controlling any type of performance work, would be challenging indeed. Think more of something of the lines of ‘experimental music’, fun interactive demos, etc.
The MindAffect BCI allows the user to ‘select’ different options on a screen of menu items, by visual attention. This is not using AI, but instead what is called VEP visual evoked potentials. See videos on this page.
I’m not clear your desire for AI involvement. Above video is not using any AI, just recording the VEP signals from the visual cortex. There is NO AI currently that can receive EEG / BCI brain waves and interpret them in real time. That is still science fiction.
I understand and will do more searching nonetheless im curious to why bci alongside ai cant understand intent especially in that setting. Theres only so many options and if all limbs are busy while the user is looking at what’s left…either way im very excited about helping in any way. No I haven’t done any coding im just a simple 20 year intense metal drummer with an idea. I believe I can recalibrate drumming to free up resources for more creativity. I appreciate your replying not many are taking interest.
One issue with an active drummer employing both hands and feet, is that it creates a lot of body and head movement. If you have done any EEG in the past, you might know that body movement creates what are called ‘artifacts’, or distortions in the EEG recording. This would make any BCI even more difficult.
I’m not a rock drummer, but my understanding of hybrid drum kits, is that they assign additional (drum machine) control pads within reach of your drum sticks. (In addition to the regular acoustic drum kit.) That would be my recommendation and has the highest timing / tempo accuracy. You simply cannot get that kind of time resolution from any current BCI.
High resolution cameras with high framerates and the structure of a song and its predictability i figured AI could aliviate those issues. I was hoping to bypass all limbs and bci go for the last thought. Either way im glad you’ve given me a little light. Even if all i can accomplish right now is a snare sound on my kit thats still a huge step in music creation.
